True Jesus Church

True Jesus Church

Paul Wei, Zhang Lingsheng, Barnabas Zhang

Preacher Yong-Ji Lin. The TJC is governed by an International Assembly. A World Delegates Conference is held every two years.

Beijing, China (1917–18)

California, USA

Essential Doctrines of the Holy Bible

The Holy Spirit

The group denies the Trinity, instead teaching what it calls "One True God theology" and affirming that "The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one God and one Spirit, and the Spirit of the Son is also the Spirit of the Father and the Holy Spirit…" It also observes a seventh-day (Saturday) sabbath, practices foot-washing, and rejects the observance of Christmas.

According to an entry in the Encyclopedia of Contemporary Chinese Culture (online), "the TJC...came under attack [from mainland Chinese authorities] in 1953. Its leader, Isaac Wei, was arrested, and authorities forcibly dissolved its organizational structure and assimilated it into the Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TSPM). Several prominent members relocated the TJC’s headquarters to Taiwan, and then to Los Angeles in 1985. In the reform era, the TJC has experienced a dramatic revival on the mainland, mostly in central inland provinces, and has evangelized aggressively abroad, particularly among overseas Chinese."

The group’s main web site claims 1.5 million followers in 48 countries.
