IVI has Catholic roots, but mainly incorporates elements of Hinduism and 19th c. European occultism, with a strong emphasis on reincarnation. Ms. Trubert claimed to be (alternately) incarnations of the Virgin Mary, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Her chief followers are said to be reincarnations of the 12 disciples. She saw herself as a healer, able to harmonize the heart and the body to effect physical cures. Medicine is avoided, as illness is perceived to be an imbalance of spiritual energy, not unlike Christian Science.
