AMORC claims to be "free from Dogma," but offers a "Home Study Lessons" (also known as "monographs") which present "the collective wisdom of humanity on topics such as metaphysics, mysticism, and philosophy." AMORC is a syncretistic religious cult with many similarities to Theosophy and other contemporary occultic groups.
Among other paranormal abilities that initiates seek to develop through the use of AMORC’s monographs is the power to summon the dead, including Christian Rosenkreuz himself. AMORC attempts to shield the teachings and practices of its initiates from curious outsiders.
The Roman Catholic Church claims that the true origins of the order begin in the early 17th century: "The original appellation of the alleged members of the occult-cabalistic-theosophical "Rosicrucian Brotherhood," described in the pamphlet "Fama Fraternitatis R.C." (Rosae crucis), which was circulated in manuscript as early as 1610 and first appeared in print in 1614 at Cassel, Germany. AMORC also offers a variety of home study courses through its web site. However, Rosicrucianism is an old tradition, and variations on the name Rose Cross are used by many contemporary groups.
