According to its web site, the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University "is an international non-governmental organisation. In effect, it is a center that promotes the teaching of Rajah (Royal) Yoga, one of the classical Hindu philosophical schools. It is involved in cultural, educational and humanitarian work; Brahma Kumaris means ‘daughters of Brahma.’ Devotees focus on what they consider four main principles of life (study, meditate, practice, serve) and advocate a vegetarian diet, celibacy, and avoidance of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco.
Many women are attracted to Brahma Kumaris (which is run mostly by women). Even if already married, women who join must take a vow of celibacy, which has caused problems in India.
A splinter movement, known as the Advance Party (Prajapita Brahma Kumaris, PBKs), is also active.
This is a classical Hindu monastic sect which emphasizes the worship of Shiva.
